Ottawa Voyaguers cease operations

Sad news from the Can-Am League as the Ottawa Voyaguers will not be playing in 2009. The league had intended to fund the team while new ownership was sought, but when the Atlantic City Surf folded, the league decided to simply cease operations of both clubs.

This summer will mark the first in Ottawa without pro baseball since 1992. The AAA Lynx operated from 1993-2007, and then the Voyageurs' predecessors, the horribly named Rapidz, spent last season at the ballpark.

I was looking forward to attending a few games this summer, now I hope that the situation can be resolved for 2010.

Update (1/12/2012): The situation was never resolved but Ottawa ended up with a team in the semi-pro Intercounty Baseball League, aptly named the Fat Cats. As well, there is talk of a AA team moving there in 2013.
