NFL Playoff Picture after Week 16

The playoff picture has cleared up considerably, with just two spots left up for grabs among six teams.

Five teams at 11-4, with Seattle and Detroit taking the division titles due to head-to-head results over the wild card teams. Seattle and Detroit have a better conference record than Dallas, and the Seahawks have a better record than the Lions in common games, the same tiebreaker that gives Green Bay the 5th seed over Arizona. Only Atlanta can make it in at Carolina's expense as they meet in Week 17. Looking back to the halfway point, Philly lost out to the Packers, while New Orleans horrible second half cost them a playoff spot.

Mike Nugent's missed field goal against Carolina could cost them the 2nd seed now that they have defeated Denver. San Diego's win in Baltimore gives them the final spot, while Baltimore, who should beat Cleveland, needs the Chargers to lose in Kansas City to get in. Compared to the standings after 8 games Pittsburgh have replaced Kansas City as the only new AFC playoff team in 2014.

Best,

Sean
