Even though Dallas beat Seattle and Seattle beat Green Bay, the NFL tiebreakers require a complete head-to-head sweep, and the Cowboys and Packers did not meet this season. The next tiebreaker is conference record, and Seattle (10-2) beats Green Bay (9-3) and Dallas (8-4). Arizona beat the Lions earlier to claim the 5th spot and the right to play in Carolina.

New England beat Denver to claim top spot, while Pittsburgh's thumping of Indy notches them the third seed. Buffalo finished just a game out of the playoffs, although they would not have made it even if they had beaten Oakland last weekend.

Looking back to the halfway point, Philly and New Orleans (who met in the playoffs last season) dropped out in favour of Green Bay and Carolina, while the Chiefs and Chargers were replaced by Pittsburgh and Baltimore, a result of the AFC North enjoying a weak schedule against the AFC and NFC South. Seeded playoff proponents note that the unbalanced schedule is equally unfair.

Best,

Sean
